What is O'Town Makerspace?
O'Town Makerspace is a community-driven, nonprofit workshop in Odense where members share tools, machines, and knowledge. It's run entirely by volunteers and is open to anyone who wants to learn, build, or create.
Can I visit without being a member?
Yes — the makerspace is open to the public during Open House events every Thursday from 18:00 to 20:00. Outside of Open House, only members can access the premises.
Can I bring a guest?
Guests are welcome during Open House. Outside of Open House, guests may visit only when accompanied by a member. Members are responsible for their guests' conduct and safety.
Membership
Who can become a member?
Anyone over 18 years of age who supports the purpose of the association. If you are under 18, the board may grant a dispensation on a case-by-case basis.
How much does membership cost?
Membership costs 300 DKK per month. This gives you 24/7 access to the space, all tools and machines, and the community.
How do I become a member?
Start by visiting us during an Open House (every Thursday, 18:00–20:00). Get an introduction from a board member, review the Articles of Association and Terms of Membership, then sign up through our membership portal.
How do I cancel my membership?
You can cancel at any time before your next payment through the membership portal. After cancellation, your membership remains active for one month following the last payment.
Tools & Workspace
Can I use any machine right away?
You should only use tools and machines you have been introduced to and feel confident operating. Some machines require a license — a 1st degree license lets you use the machine under guidance, and a 2nd degree license lets you use it independently and supervise others.
Do I need my own materials?
Basic shared consumables (screws, sandpaper, glue, etc.) are available for everyone. Specialty or large-quantity materials should be sourced by you. If you use the last of a shared supply, let the group know so the maintenance crew can refill it.
Where do I store my projects?
Each member has assigned storage space. Store your materials and in-progress projects there. Do not leave personal items in shared work areas if you are not actively working on them. The makerspace is not a long-term storage facility — take finished projects home.
Safety & Liability
What if I break something?
You can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs. If something breaks, report it on Discord #ask-for-help so it can be addressed quickly. That said, members are liable for damage resulting from improper or irresponsible use.
Do I need insurance?
The makerspace strongly encourages all members to have insurance, as the association does not cover injuries or lost/damaged personal property. It is recommended that members have "indboforsikring" and "ulykkesforsikring" (or equivalent).
Community
How can I get involved beyond using the space?
The makerspace is run entirely by volunteers. You can help with maintenance, host workshops, join the board, or contribute in other ways. Join the Discord to connect with the community.
